I've been writing and telling stories ever since I can remember. The story that eventually became The Red Dance started out as a children's story called The Wooly Walla Walla War. It was something that I entertained my children with while they were growing up. I don't know when it stopped being a children's story...I think it just grew with them.
The book eventually underwent over 50 rewrites and took more than 25 years to complete. Only a line or two remains from the original story: "Learn why I hate the Wind...But for him, there would be no need for moon-touched cats...The world we see about us need not exist, if not for him...."
There were times when I wondered if I'd ever finish it. Years would sometimes pass without me writing a line -- but I always came back to it.
For 9 years I published and edited a small weekly newspaper in Western Maine -- along with other members of my family. Now I publish a monthly newsletter for people with celiac disease. My family and I also publish a food and drug database as well as books for celiacs. If you'd like to learn more about celiac disease, visit us at clanthompson.com.
I play the kantele, a musical instrument from Finland that's related to the zither, and I write music, too. You can hear my music at www.kantelemusic.com. I also like to travel, read, and spend time with my grandchildren.
